Footloose: Revisited

Not too long ago, back in February, I blogged about what Footloose the song and what the album meant to me. In short, in case you don't remember, I have a fond memory of putting an entire roll of quarters into a jukebox and playing the embedded song in the video over and over and over while we ate pizza.

Totally by coincident, a friend whom I used to know about 25 years ago, recently put the above video in his Facebook feed showing Kenny Logins and Daryl Hall playing Footloose together. Not only does the song bring back memories, but the first part of it where they are discussing the various parts and when each of them are to come into the song makes me realize how incredibly talented they are in their craft. I could never begin to do such a thing though I think I would be as happy as a clam if I could. But I guess my talent is shaping wood and theirs was shaping sounds.

Anyway, seeing the video and hearing the song come together made me feel so good, that I just had to share it in a post in case others haven't seen it.

  1. This makes me realize how much younger you are.

    1. I had to do some googling and it turns out Kenny Logins is just a year younger than you old timer... and still rockin!

  2. Many years ago a friend wanted me to go to a Kenny Loggins concert at a local casino. I don't like casinos nor was I that familiar with Kenny Loggins. I soon discovered how many songs of his I loved and enjoyed the concert very much. (although not the cigarette smoke in the casino)

    1. Kenny Loggins is under appreciated as an artist in my opinion.

  3. Daryl Hall as in Hall & Oates? This was fun so thanks for sharing, Ed!

    1. I believe it was the one and the same. Although I am familiar with Hall & Oates and like some of their work, I was never a super fan of them as I was other groups.

    1. I guess we all have talents and thankfully in different areas so we can appreciate those whose talents aren't in our wheelhouse.

  6. Wow, that brings back a lot of memories Ed! Thank you for sharing.

We saw James Taylor early this year. At 77, he is still doing a fine job of playing and singing. I would have easily pegged him at 10 years younger.

    1. I think there is something about touring and spending hours up on a stage that is beneficial to the body. There are a lot of young looking older musicians out there!

  7. A roll of quarters and a pizza joint could really hold a lot of magic back in the day. It’s awesome how a song like Footloose can still kick up those good vibes many years later.

    1. It has definitely stood the test of time and is probably still playing on "oldies" music stations.

  8. Fun! This movie was "the thing" the summer before I went to college. Why is Daryl Hall singing with Kenny Loggins? That seems a little weird. Hall wasn't on the record, was he?

    1. Not that I recall. I think Hall and Loggins were just jamming, perhaps for a shared concert venue in the future.

  9. I watched Footloose but it didn't really make much impression on me. I kind of feel between "Footloose" which was released in 84 and "The Big Chill" which was released in 83--and those were tough years where I was doing a lot of soul searching and maybe for that reason the Big Chill resonated more with me.

    1. I have never heard of "The Big Chill" until now which is probably not surprising considering our family didn't have a television in those years and only went to "town" to see a movie maybe once every 2 or 3 months. So most movies of that era were one of the few ones we saw in theaters or was popular enough it was showing on television 20+ years later when I had one to watch in my home.
