Blogger Feed Problems

Is anyone else having problems with blogger feeds? My reading list to the left always updates when someone posts something new moving their blog and the post title to the top of the list. Suddenly a day ago, I have around ten blogs that now will not show the title of their last post and thus end up at the bottom of my blog roll where I have a bunch of defunct bloggers that I dream about their triumph return someday. When I click on their blog name at the bottom of my blog roll, I am greeted with a screen full of random characters until I delete the part of the URL dealing with the feed and then it is business as ususal. I'm not sure what is going on but wanted to see if it was just me or others too.

  1. Ed, from what I am seeing other places, it is a general Blogger problem.

    1. Well that is a relief. I've twice gone to each blog that is messed up on my reader and resubmitted the URL which seemed to "fix" the problem only to log in the next time a day later and see the problem is back.

  2. I use a free reader it is called The Old Reader:)

  3. Would you believe I just wrote a blog post about this very thing? It will go up tomorrow. The weird thing is I was getting that problem with DJan's blog and then it seemed to get fixed and then two days later, there it was at the bottom with those crazy words/numbers too. Anyway, too much to explain. You'll see it tomorrow. I sure hope Google fixes it tomorrow because there's a whole bunch more bloggers that are showing up at the bottom of my sidebar with that same problem.

    1. I haven't been able to figure out a commonality yet. At first I thought it was only those who had their blog on blogger but I have two that are doing it with Typepad too.

    2. I just wrote this comment on my blog, but thought I'd write you directly:

Dang it! I tried to manually fix the problem on Layout by removing that "feeds/posts/default" the day before so I could click on the link and not get that HTML mess. So now that Google has fixed the problem everything was still at the bottom. Arrrghhh... Even though I could access the site. Soooo.... now this morning, I had to UNDO everything I did and put back that "feeds/posts/default" addition. Sigh.... So now it works properly again. This will teach me to just be patient and wait for the Google techies to fix the problem eventually.

Also: If it's not a Blogspot blog, I have to make sure it just says "feed" at the end and not "feeds/posts/default."

    3. Fortunately for me, I had only done that for one blog and not all of them so it wasn't so time consuming to change.

Based on Blogger's past history of lengthy delays fixing problems, you were right in trying a solution yourself. I would have too but stopped just because blogger in general was extremely sluggish at the time and thought I would wait for that to resolve first before attempting to fix the feed issue.

  4. I don't have a blog roll so I'm not seeing this particular problem, but yours is the second blog on my blogger reading list that is posting about a similar problem this morning.

They must be tweaking blogger again. I was locked out of my blogger dashboard a couple of days ago and now haven't seen a comment on my blog since. Not sure if that's related or coincidence..

    1. Your blog is one that is appearing at the bottom of my blog roll and when I click the link I end up with a bunch of weird characters. Only after I delete the blog feed part of the URL do I actually get your blog.

    2. I just got an email from a friend who showed me a screenshot of my and another homestead blog, both of our blogs were at the bottom of her blog roll. The blogs that have been inactive for a long time were on the top. The active blogs were on the bottom. Weird.

    3. That is exactly what I’m seeing too.

  5. I should add that when I leave comments lately, I get a lot of "whoops, there was an error" messages, but the comments seem to publish anyway. I don't get that message on your blog; I don't get anything at all, so I have to assume you get them.

    1. Thus far, I've been getting them though I have comment moderation turned on and generally only check my blog once a day in the mornings so it may be the following day before they are published.

  6. I can’t help, for I have never used the built-in blogroll. Forever and a day now, I have used a reader called Feedly to keep track if things.

    1. I may have to look into that and the other one mentioned above if things persist. Since it apparently took many months for the last problem to be resolved, I'm not optimistic about a quick solution from Google.

  7. I have a blogroll but don't generally use it. I go through feedly. Has my blog been affected?

    1. Yes, your blog is one I can only access by deleting the feed info at the end of the URL.

    2. I take that back. Yours still shows up but the title of your blogpost isn't there. I'm not sure if it has always been that way or something new. You don't have the "feed info" in the URL.

    3. But your blog is showing a post from three days ago. Normally you post nearly daily so there might be an issue and I just don't know it.

    4. I haven't had any problems linking to other blogs from my own, but I do not have a 'feed'. I have noticed what you described on other blogs though, when I click on a link.

  8. Tasker, over at A Yorkshire Memoir, is discussing the exact same problem.
