Explanation of Blogger Commenting Problem

I saw the above on an old comment about the same problem occurring back in 2019. It explains why the option “cross site tracking had to be turned on in your browser for embedded comments. For those still having problems, perhaps a search on “third party cookies” and your browser may get things working again.

  1. Thanks Ed. In my browser, it does list them as "cross site tracking". I have tried to turn that off with minimal success. What surprises me is the fact that if this came out in 2019 (and earlier, from what I can see) that it only manifested itself now in my case.

    1. I think it manifested with the change of the commenting box in general. At least on my interfaces, the commenting text is much larger than it was and has new look.

  2. I'm really sorry some of you bloggers have been experiencing these issues--my blog is set up with embedded comments, I allow anonymous comments. I use Mozilla Firefox on both my laptop (where I blog) and my Android tablet (where I comment). I've experienced no problems, this really sounds like an Apple issue!

    1. I'm guessing your settings already allowed third party cookies. I had mine turned off and when I turned them back on, everything works again as it should.

    2. Ed, not to be a pain but I am looking at my accounts third party cookie settings now, and mine is set to block cross-site tracking cookies, including social media cookies by default. I've never played with these settings before, so I'm hesitant to change them... at least I know where to go now, if I have to.

    3. This is good to know. I have no idea what my settings are. It's always been easy to comment from my laptop and nearly impossible (for many blogs) from my iPhone.

    4. ApacheDug - What are you commenting on? Laptop or iPad? Other than Kelly, I haven’t heard of any issues on laptops when it comes to commenting on embedded comments.

    5. Margaret - For the most part the problem seems to be with iPads and iPhones and allowing third party cookies, I.e. cross site tracking turned on, fixes the problem.

    6. Ed, my comment above was done on my Toshiba laptop. This comment is from my Lenovo (Android) tablet. I own no apple devices.

    7. That is probably why you haven’t had any problems then. It seems mostly contained to Apple products.

  3. So I need to have "cross site tracking" turned on? (it already is on both my laptop and my phone) Or is any of this applicable to me? I still wonder if it's just on the receiving end of the blogs (not the commenter end). -Kelly

    1. Kelly - yes, cross site tracking should be turned on. Your case seems to be the exception to every rule though. Are you using Safari on your laptop?

  4. Yes, I only use Safari. Count on me to be the exception. 🙄

    1. Kelly - Hopefully it fixes itself at some point.

  5. I noticed today that Google gave the commenting a makeover. I had to open a private window to get things back to normal.

    1. Somebody back at google is probably sitting in their dark coding room cackling evilly.
