Finishing Details
With the cabin now a full time living residence, it is too small to hold much in the way of stuff so the project this fall has been to build a storage building for all the outdoor gear. My dad built the building and had all but the finishing detail work done so my brother and I spent a morning helping him finish all the detail work. We boxed in the soffit ends and applied the fascia cover while my dad did the soffit. It is now critter tight and ready for use.
Unfortunately, my youngest daughter had a cough that started getting worse and later that night became wheezing in nature. As we were approaching a holiday weekend and her pediatrician would be not available, we decided to error on the side of caution and leave the next morning, much earlier than planned. As it turned out, she was negative for both flu and covid and it was most likely a cold but she was given some medicine and was soon on the mend. A new to me hike that was in the works ended up getting cancelled due to our early departure but I hope to do it the next time I make it down.
You wonder where we get the germs that we do when we are masking etc. My daughter is careful and works in a well monitored environment but still has a very nasty cold or whatever.
ReplyDeleteI would wonder if it were me with the symptoms. But in my daughters case, she is in a school full of children, most unmasked, and so it is no surprise.
DeleteGlad your daughter is okay. Gosh, you folks do nice work!
ReplyDeleteI was a little worried with the wheezing.
DeleteThat is a good looking structure, I love the color--and I am very glad to read your daughter's cough wasn't more serious Ed. Man, we are living in some scary times.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly live in different times. Prior to 2019, we would have just gone to the store to get more cough suppressant and moved on with life.
DeleteThat is a very nice looking shed, Ed. Congratulations! And I do very much love the color.
ReplyDeleteGlad your daughter is relatively okay as well. Wheezing is something we take seriously here regardless, just based on history. But it is rather remarkable how our responses to such things have changed in two years.
Thanks TB!
DeleteMy first thought was that maybe her long hike had brought on some sports/activity related asthma. I dealt with that some as did one of my daughters. Glad to know it wasn't flu or covid.
ReplyDeleteSince she had the cough before the hike, I suppose it could have made it worse. Fortunately she is all back to normal now.
DeleteExcellent looking shed! I don't wonder how I caught my cold with NY grandson in daycare then traveling to visit. Glad it wasn't Covid!
ReplyDeleteDaycares and elementary schools are giant Petrie dishes of disease.
DeleteAnother fine building - well planned and well constructed. Sorry you had to cut the holiday time shorter than planned but with COVID around you cannot be too careful.
ReplyDeleteEspecially with a national holiday that would have had the clinic closed for the next three days.
DeleteWhat a nice project for your Dad! Glad you are all well again.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThe scenery on your blog is stunning! Glad your daughters illness was not COVID!! I am now following you! Stay safe! HUGS
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comment and stopping by!
DeleteI’m so glad your daughter is doing OK, Ed. I’m sure that was a worry. I’m hearing of more and more people getting the breakthrough COVID these days. You guys did a fabulous job with the storage building.
ReplyDeleteShe had been vaccinated so we weren't terribly worried about anything serious but didn't want her to have to be uncomfortable for three days because we couldn't get some medicine to control her symptoms better.
DeleteOh darn! I just wrote a comment and it disappeared.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say I’m so happy your daughter is recovered and didn’t have COVID. I’m hearing of more and more people getting breakthrough COVID (including my brother and his wife). That storage building looks beautiful. You guys did a great job.
It came through. I have comment moderation turned on.
DeleteThe storage shed is a great idea. And all those other plans can wait. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially with our kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm in absolute agreement.
