'Tis the Season

In the era of global warming, we have had an unusual amount of snow the past couple weeks. That suits me just fine as what little shopping we do has already been done and I am happiest avoiding all the consumerism madness going on around me.

With the snow still falling, I opted to spend the second to last shopping weekend before Christmas enjoying a nice fire in the fireplace and reading. To do that however, required me to go out in the sense that I had to open the patio door underneath our deck and walk approximately five feet to my wood box to carry in a supply of firewood and I did that maybe six times in a row before deeming the firewood supply sufficient for a couple fires. I only paused long enough to take the above photo.

Soon the fire was started and I indeed spent the rest of the weekend reading in front of it with only a trip out to go to church on Sunday morning for the third Sunday of Advent before returning directly home. I did make one other trip outside to clear the driveway of the latest snow so that it doesn't get packed down into something resembling a ice skating rink. I liken that though to those that jump from a sauna into a pool and back into the sauna. Just replace pool with driveway and sauna with my recliner five feet from the fireplace.

  1. Your wonderful garden shed looks lonely out there in the snow field. Fireplace is cozy. Linda in Kansas

    1. On any other day, 80 degrees inside would be way to warm. But on fire enjoying days, it is more on the low end of temperature enjoyment.

    1. Cozy is an apt description as the quarters are pretty tight downstairs. I sit on this side so my long legs can extend past the coffee table. My wife sits to the right since she doesn't have interference issues!

    2. That does look cozy. I'm not sorry to not have snow but would like a more normal December. 60+ degrees isn't great for this time of year.

    1. Perhaps because I grew up isolated on a farm, but I've always thought staying at home was an enjoyable thing!

    1. I'm not convinced of that, but it does look like a bit of a shelter during the snow storm we were getting.

    1. It has a blower fan on it so really pumps out a lot of heat into our small basement.
