Utilizing My Other Cameras
I've brought my game camera in for the winter now but it mostly always caught glimpses of the does and their fawns. After watching one of Steve's many game camera feeds of a diverse set of animals, it occurred to me that I should check my other cameras, namely the security cameras that hang on the outside of the house. By default, they mostly only catch our comings and goings which isn't that interesting. I forget however, that they do capture other videos of movement but if the A.I. doesn't deem it a human or a vehicle, it sticks it in another folder out of sight. So after digging around for the month of November thus far, I found a few clips to show you.
0:00 - 0:51 The longest part of the clip is of a squirrel investigating our back deck.
0:52 - 1:02 A small four point buck heading across our driveway and down to the woods.
1:03 - 1:15 A bigger buck heading in the opposite direction, likely looking for a hot doe.
The deer were an unexpected treat for you.
ReplyDeleteI guess it depends. I see a half dozen go by twice a day, morning and evening. But they are nearly all does and this year's fawns, perhaps a yearling or two. I almost never see a buck go by, much less one with as many points as that last one. So in that sense, it was a treat to see him.
DeleteAh, yes, the squirrels in the flower pots. I see the same thing here! I loved the shadow of the young buck as it crossed the driveway.
ReplyDeleteI’m sure there are acorns in some of them now.
DeleteDespite not really liking squirrels very much, they can sure be entertaining to watch.
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty tasty creatures though I haven’t eaten one in a couple decades.
DeleteSquirrels are so cute. We don't have them here so on the few times we visited our daughters in college in California, my husband would love to watch them in trees and was also so fascinated to see a raccoon road kill one day.
ReplyDeleteI set up my iphone to timelapse video because I suspected a cat was coming by the back yard. I put out a bowl of food, and sure enough, a rather beautiful Siamese looking cat came at night. I will need to trap him/her one of these days and hope the owner claims him/her from the pound.
There are always a lot of stray or wild roaming cats in our neighborhood. I get them fairly often on my garage camera crossing our driveway.
DeleteAnd as the deer go by your place do they help themselves to tasty treats. That's what they do at my place.
ReplyDeleteMy wife plants a pretty nice salad bar around the house!
DeleteThe buck walks so proudly! Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI guess if you have a nice rack, you tend to flaunt it.
DeleteSince we live in a rural area, we have cameras and lights on all corners of our house and the most interesting animal are bears... which we see a lot in the spring.
ReplyDeleteI wish we could trade animals for awhile but I’m not sure I would want bears roaming around my house all year long!
DeleteWe had squirrels on our deck all the time when we lived in Illinois but I'm pretty sure we saw a deer just once in our front yard. It's cool you caught your deer on camera.
ReplyDeleteMost on my cameras are pointed down so don’t cover much of our lawn. I’ve thought of adding one as a permanent lawn camera but haven’t.
DeleteWe see raccoons and possums only at night, and they want to eat the food we leave out for the feral cats we feed. The coons have no fear and often will stand its ground, unless I advance and chase it away.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t seen any possums here in town though I’m sure they are around. I do see the odd raccoon maybe a few times a year on camera. I see them more often though just sitting on the deck and looking at my neighbors hollow silver maple tree.
DeleteSometimes these cameras give you interesting and unexpected captures. Only thing is one must have the patience to go through it.
ReplyDeleteMine are set only to record if triggered but in the fall, that can be a lot of things such as falling leaves!
