Drawer Parts

The very day last week that summer left and fall blew into town on a cold windy day with just a spritz of rain, I got a couple more sheets of plywood to make some cheap drawer boxes. It is all going to be rabbet joinery with glue and nails.

  1. Cold Windy Day = Good reason for indoor/garage work.

    1. I "wrote" too soon because the week following this was very hot again, unusually so. Today though is back to normal fall temperatures and the forecasted 2" of rain has come and left behind 0.09" of rain. I guess that is better than nothing but not by much.

  3. I saw that as "rabbit". I had to look it up since I'd forgotten what kind of joint that was.

  4. What are the outside dimensions of your rolling cabinet? All that space makes me envious.

    1. I know it is four feet wide, the width of a sheet of plywood. I think I made it 6 feet long. I would have loved to have made it 8 feet long to use a full sheet of plywood, but I just didn't have the extra room in my garage and thus had to make due. Still 24 square feet of work surface feels spacious compared to the 4 or so square feet I always used on my tablesaw.

  8. I look at that photo, and all I can think is, "something like those would make perfect filler shelves for my yarn stash!" I use a tall bookcase with adjustable shelves, but there aren't enough of them to be as orderly as I'd like.

Gotta love those days when the weather makes it better to work inside.

    1. I have made lots of plywood shelves but I usually attach a hardwood piece to the front edge to prevent sagging and hide the plywood layers.

  9. You are a steady, accurate worker and you think things through. I doubt that any of your blog visitors will be following your example. We are too useless. Looking forward to seeing the finished drawers.
