Drawer Parts
The very day last week that summer left and fall blew into town on a cold windy day with just a spritz of rain, I got a couple more sheets of plywood to make some cheap drawer boxes. It is all going to be rabbet joinery with glue and nails.
Cold Windy Day = Good reason for indoor/garage work.
ReplyDeleteI "wrote" too soon because the week following this was very hot again, unusually so. Today though is back to normal fall temperatures and the forecasted 2" of rain has come and left behind 0.09" of rain. I guess that is better than nothing but not by much.
DeleteThat's a lot of work getting them cut into the pieces you need. -Jeff
ReplyDeleteDrawers is not my favorite thing to do because it is a lot of repetitiveness.
DeleteI saw that as "rabbit". I had to look it up since I'd forgotten what kind of joint that was.
ReplyDeleteIn other parts of the world, the call it a rebate.
DeleteWhat are the outside dimensions of your rolling cabinet? All that space makes me envious.
ReplyDeleteI know it is four feet wide, the width of a sheet of plywood. I think I made it 6 feet long. I would have loved to have made it 8 feet long to use a full sheet of plywood, but I just didn't have the extra room in my garage and thus had to make due. Still 24 square feet of work surface feels spacious compared to the 4 or so square feet I always used on my tablesaw.
DeleteYou give us a good description of how the cabinet is put together.
ReplyDeleteThanks to a lack of other things to write about.
DeleteA rolling work bench is such a great idea. You ought to take on a new profession: workspace designer.
ReplyDeleteThis is my fifth workbench I’ve built over the years. Lots of mistakes to learn from.
DeleteThose blue tapes are for identification I suppose.
ReplyDeleteThey are due to several of the parts being similar sized.
DeleteI look at that photo, and all I can think is, "something like those would make perfect filler shelves for my yarn stash!" I use a tall bookcase with adjustable shelves, but there aren't enough of them to be as orderly as I'd like.
ReplyDeleteGotta love those days when the weather makes it better to work inside.
I have made lots of plywood shelves but I usually attach a hardwood piece to the front edge to prevent sagging and hide the plywood layers.
DeleteYou are a steady, accurate worker and you think things through. I doubt that any of your blog visitors will be following your example. We are too useless. Looking forward to seeing the finished drawers.
ReplyDeleteYou provide me with morning entertainment Mr. Pudding. That is not useless!
DeleteLots of work to be done! It will be awesome when you are finished!~
ReplyDeleteYes, a fair amount still needs to be done but it is progressing.
DeleteSounds like a good day to be working indoors!
ReplyDeleteIt was.
