Updated Plans
With it being so hot, I do have some time, quite a bit actually, during late mornings and afternoons to do other things so I touched up my framing plans for this project. Nothing earth shattering but should help me get a lumber count so I can just pay for delivery once. I don't think I will try to haul all this in the minivan over countless trips. I'm still deciding how I want the doors for the storage side of the building. Ideally I would like to make it rodent proof while still having a 72 inch wide opening. Not sure if I can do that with home built doors. So more thought and research is needed.
“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” – Abraham Lincoln.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when one doesn't own a vehicle of carrying a lot of lumber. I just want to pay for delivery once if I can help it.
DeleteI have no idea how a person can do what you do.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost sickly humid here again with feels-like temps going up to the 100s again. This will go on for another week. :(
Except for a recent two days with low humidity, it has been hot and very humid here. In an hour, I am completely sweated through. I grew up on a farm and as a result, helped with a lot of concrete and building projects over the years so I'm relying heavily on that experience to get me through this.
DeleteEd, I am hardly a draftsman but it looks great!
ReplyDeleteThe lumber delivery is a good call. I will be interested (in a kind of sad way) to see how much of a percentage increase it is versus having done it a year ago.
I never paid attention a year ago but I have in the last few months and lumber prices here have gone down considerably. A treated 2x6 was going for about $16 earlier this summer and now around $5.
DeleteWhat kind of program do you use for your planning? Having never used anything other than pencil and paper on a drafting board, I have no idea what kind of stuff is out there, or how user friendly it is.
ReplyDeleteI use Google Sketchup which is free. Compared to the fancy software I used in my career that cost $2000 per seat per year, it is cumbersome to use at times when you are making changes, but if you have a pretty good idea of what you want and just want to document it to make sure things work out, you can't beat the price.
DeleteThis is going to be incredible!
ReplyDeleteI hope so. Better than ending up in a Covid ward with a hernia.
DeleteI wish I had the land area that you have to build structures. Here in Hawaii, we are squished into small city lots. And, we have rather unscrupulous builders who are only concerned about making profits and so they build monster houses that are stuck together with a common wall, and sell half at a time for over $1 million each. No yards, no trees, just a lot of concrete and neighborhood angst.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I live where land is more plentiful too. Hawaii isn't growing very fast so land it going to be at a premium for eons.
DeleteI am so glad to see the price of lumber coming down. Better that you're building this now than six months ago.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't on my honey-do list six months ago... fortunately.
DeleteOh gracious! I am totally impressed. I’m going to have to show this to Art. He’ll love it…and be very impressed.
ReplyDeleteLooks like an excellent plan, Ed! I'm guessing that once it's built, you'll wonder how you ever lived with out it.
