I LOVE Glacier! Why wasn't it the destination to begin with?
TC - I'm more of a person of solitude. Given a choice of hiking in an out of the way location or going to some developed park for the masses, I prefer the former. I've been to Glacier and Yellowstone for a few days each and saw enough. If I go back to either, it will be only in the back country and avoiding the masses.
I seem to remember reading that those Big Horn sheep were under threat. I forget whether it was ALL such or just in a single area.Amasing all the same, but I distinctly remember seeing a programme on TV about hunting those animals.
Glacier is a great place and it's so easy to find solitude -- if you don't mind the grizzlies, that is.Cheers.
I love Glacier. It is right up there with the Yellowstone forty years ago. I had a smoke jump into Glacier once, but it was one of those for which smoke jumpers were invented. (tiny smoke, two jumpers, fire out in four hours.) The disadvantage was that it was on a forty degree grade, so we had to walk out for a day and a half to reach a spot for a pick up. If you drive through Glacier you would swear that you could hike any direction and hit a road or stream in a few hours, but taint so (Of course this was in about 1953 or 4)
